RULES:
Starting the game: The game starts when the umpires first blow the whistle at the start of a quarter. A game is started with a center pass from either side if the team. Contact: When playing a game of netball all players are not to make contact within their opponent; contacting includes: pushing, leaning, tripping and elbowing. These options may happen accidentally or on purpose, either way it is contact. Scoring a goal: When a goal shooter or goal attack score a goal they have to shoot it within the semi circle. When they get the goal in the umpire will blow their whistle to indicate that the goal is official. Obstruction: Obstruction is when the opponent is defending the player with the ball along with arms extended and is not far enough. When defending the player you have to 0.9 m (3 feet) away from that player. Held ball: If you receive the ball the ball has to be thrown, bounced, or shot in the matter of the 3 seconds or else the ball will go to the opposing team. |

Replay:
If a player bounces the ball and picks it up the ball is passes over to the other team. Short pass: When passing the ball there has to be space for a third person to go in between the pass. Over a third: The ball must be touched at least once in each third. Offside: Each player must stay in their assigned areas, if a player goes past their area then the other team is awarded with a free pass. Footwork: a) One-foot landing: When the player lands on one foot it is considered their grounded foot and cant move that foot without passing the ball to another team member, but with their non-grounded foot they cant step as many times as they like. b) Two-foot landing: When the player lands on two feet they can choose which one is their grounded foot. This counts to both A and B: If the player lifts their grounded foot they have to release the ball before their grounded foot lands again. Out of court: The player is allowed to exit the court at any time as long as they don't have any contact with the ball. Blood Policy: During a game of netball there is to be no blood on the court, player, ball etc. If there is a sight of blood they are to be taken off the court and they're given 30 seconds for injury time. POSITIONS:
When playing positions its very important that you understand what your strengths and weaknesses are, for example: agility & stamina. Your agility might be excellent but your stamina might not last that long so you'd probably be best at WA or WD. To be a goalie your agility and/or stamina mightn't be decent or not the best (or it could be great, your strongest position might be shooting), so you would fit into shooting; in the goal area you will also need to aim rather nicely to get goals for your team. Don't forget GA or GD which you are able to enter more than one third of the court; you're able to enter two thirds, the one you start in (1st or 3rd) and the middle. So you're able to go to more places and help out in different ways. Go to "Field of Play" to find out more on positions.. |
